Two cities. Two lives. One extraordinary girl.

In 1989 Moscow, twelve-year-old Zoya’s biggest worry is avoiding the school bully. But when a violent encounter sends her consciousness spiraling into a portal into Paris, she discovers she’s not who she thought she was. Zoya uncovers she has a mysterious French double, whose place she takes.

As the Iron Curtain crumbles around her, Zoya finds herself slipping into a metaverse, traveling between:
✨ Moscow, where her family faces the turbulent end of the Soviet era
✨ Paris, where a web of dark secrets threatens to trap her forever
✨ And a mysterious apartment which, Zoya is convinced, is a portal between the two cities

With time running out and a sinister doctor closing in, Zoya must uncover the truth about her connection to Paris. But which life is real? And which girl is she meant to be?

This is a book review from my teenager son Chingiz: Zoya was such an incredibly fascinating book for me to read. Such plot twists and shocking revelations had me on pure hype. My first impressions of the book were mitigated by the stunning to see concepts such as quantum entanglement and parallel realities that kept me reading on every night. The book left many stones unturned, ending with a cliff-hanger that kept me terribly eager to see a sequel. Overall the story was wonderful and I can easily say that I’m very keen on reading a sequel to finish this work of art.

This was outside of my usual genre of reading, I usually stay away from female character coming of age, and world switchero novels. However I found the settings of Moscow and Paris absorbing and enjoyed the variability of the character development. The “Groundhog Day” aspects did make for some confusion, but ara an essential part of the plot progression.

    Inter-dimensional travel and history
This book is set in the USSR and follows a 12 year old girl named Zoya who is able to travel to parallel dimensions. The concept of the book is very interesting and there is lots of historical facts thrown in throughout. Personally this book was hard to read but I’m not very interested in history or inter dimensional travel. If those are things you’re into then you should definitely read this book. It’s a little slow at first but picks up towards the middle and will constantly keep you on your toes.

Clever fantasy, and truthful picture of growing up in late-Soviet Moscow
The book is very well written, and both universes – middle class late-Soviet Moscow and bourgeois Paris – are described with true veracity. I would recommend it to readers of all ages, but especially teenagers and their parents who can affiliate with this coming-of-age story and with this clever fantasy of travelling in time and space and feeling being two different people simultaneously.

A read that will not leave you disappointed
Alexandra Pugachevsky’s Zoya, the first installment of her Multidimensional Trilogy, is a captivating blend of science fiction and fantasy that immerses readers in a richly imagined universe. The novel follows Zoya, a young woman with extraordinary abilities, as she navigates a labyrinthine world of interdimensional conflict and intrigue. Pugachevsky’s intricate world-building and well-crafted characters bring a fresh perspective to the genre, though the narrative occasionally suffers from pacing issues. Nonetheless, Zoya delivers a compelling and imaginative journey that sets a strong foundation for the subsequent books in the trilogy.

Interesting science fiction for all ages
This is the kind of sci-fi I like! Zoya is a Russian girl who finds herself traveling to France and back, and must deal with alternate realities and time changes. This book can be enjoyed by children as well as adults. This book is part of a series.

    Could not put it down…
This book is so well written, and captivated my interest as I felt completely immersed in Zoya’s story. I loved how the author was able to transport me to both realities. I could feel the cold ice on the ground, see crowds in Les Halles and be puzzled by the questions Zoya asked herself about what she was experiencing. Loved the history, the settings….and I can’t wait to read the next 2 books.

    Captivating story with fascinating plot
“Zoya” is a real page-turner! I couldn’t put the book down once I started reading it. Zoya’s adventures are absolutely fascinating, the characters in the book are very real and you can immediately relate to them. Reading the book took me back to my childhood when seeking adventures and trying to solve mysteries was something that made me excited and dreaming of miracles was so natural.I also enjoyed reading about life in Moscow in the end of the 1980s. I felt as if I was transported to that time in a time machine walking in the city, observing the people and sharing their feelings and emotions.I highly recommend “Zoya” to both kids and adults – the story is captivating, and the book is very well written.

    unexpectedly intriguing page turner
I found this book randomly, and I must say it was very interesting! I was a bit disappointed in the ending, but I think because I wasn’t quite sure where it was going to end. Overall I would recommend it though.

Coming of age story with very magical twists and turns
This book is such a captivating story! It is full of supernatural magical eventshappening in the life of the 12 years old girl.Realistic events are so convincingly intertwined with supernatural eventsthat it is easy to believe in the whole story. The book is very well written, with careful attention to many historically accurate details about life in Moscow during the last years of the Soviet Union. It has many twists and turns that are impossible to guess. My favorite character, after Zoya, is her wise neighbor Inna Lvovna. The story about bullying is universal, anybody in Russia, USA and many other countries can relate to it.I highly recommend this book to 12 years old kids, teenagers and adults.I am definitely looking forward to books 2 and 3 about Zoya.
