She’s got one rule: never date a jock. He’ll do whatever it takes to break it.
When seventeen-year-old Violet is left heartbroken by the captain of her school’s ice hockey team, she vows to never date a jock again. But, in an attempt to prove she’s moved on, she turns to the most unlikely person—her ex’s biggest rival, the notorious captain of the Ransom Devils.
Reed Darling is gorgeous, mysterious, and intimidating, both on and off the ice. Wild rumors constantly circulate about him, and the only thing people love to talk about more than his hockey skills are his exploits as a ruthless heartbreaker and bad boy. Who better to serve as Violet’s fake boyfriend until her ex gets the message, right?
But despite the intense rivalry between their two schools and Reed’s infamous reputation, Violet soon starts to wonder if there’s more to him than the gossip suggests. And while she tries her best to control their ‘relationship’ with a list of strict guidelines, Reed has other ideas. He’s set his sights on winning her over and is determined to show Violet he’s not the guy everyone thinks he is.
She should have known better than to make a deal with a devil because this one is going to break all her rules.
Rival Darling is a standalone YA rom-com with a HEA and no cliffhanger. It has fake relationship and he-falls-first tropes with cute, clean, and fun vibes. It’s perfect for fans of Lynn Painter, Jenny Han, and Ali Novak.

Pretty cute
[...]A fast read that made me laugh and roll my eyes a few times but what young adult book in romance isn’t a bit cheesy? I’m thinking about reading the other books in series later when I’m done with my reading list. 3 and send half stars

Sweet Romance
[...]Rival Darling is the first book I’ve read from Alexandra Moody, and I think she knocked it out of the park. This sweet romance is the kind you sacrifice sleep to keep reading with the classic reasoning “just one more page.”

Super Cute
[...]This was such a fun lighthearted read. The characters were absolutely adorable and i loved reading about them.while i normally deeply dislike reading about high schoolers in romance novels, this one did such a good job i completely forgot about their age most of the time.this a cutesty YA read with good humor, minor conflict, and very lovable characters.i will say there were certain things i disliked. like the introduction of side characters only to not build them up and give them no resolution i.e., Violet’s mom. other than that though i have no complaints. the writing syle was good, dialogue sounded like real ppl speaking to each other, and there was no mention of outdated or cringy teen lingo. (as well as not tik tok mention which always is a plus in my book)anyways, final thoughts: Wonderful

Cute, Clean, and Cringey
[...]⭐️⭐️⭐️/No 🌶️/ I was stuck on whether this should be a three or four star read, but when I’m racking my brain on what was good about it, I knew this was just an average three star read. These kids were cute. The scenes were clean. Most of all, there was too much cringe. I can’t imagine being serious about your college hockey career and then interrupting a big game just to randomly start figure skating. It was too immature, I get these are high school kids, and I’m way too old now, but it was so cringey to read about especially as a hockey romance fan. The kisses were cute and they’ll probably end up being high school sweethearts, but I wasn’t remotely convinced about their chemistry. He loved her so much, but she really had her own unresolved issues to deal with. The whole thing was just immature and it annoyed me to read the hockey play-by-play, therefore three stars. I highly recommend if you’re looking for a meet cute, friends to lovers kinda, fake dating, school rivalries, and high school kids who squeal about kissing and hand holding as if they’ve never had the talk before in their life.

Amazing!
[...]I really enjoyed this book, I don’t read spicy books and most hockey romance books are… Well, spicy. So when I heard this was YA and a hockey romance I was super excited to read it. It didn’t let me down, super cute and fluffy. Super cute and simple read ❤🤭❤

Simple and cute
[...]This story didn’t have a lot going on, which was a breath of fresh air. Some books, it feels like the author just wants a wild twist that no one saw coming–and most of the times they fail. This book didn’t try to what it’s not. It was cute and simple and made me smile. Great read.
