Brynn has spent the better part of her life waiting for the chance to attend the annual market hosted by the Kenta, the very same people who exiled the Alaha to live a life over the sea. A rite of passage for all young guards, she’s not sure what to expect from it, but breaking a century- long peace treaty certainly isn’t on her map.

Neither is the encounter with an enemy soldier.

Returning home to Alaha, she’s confronted with the aftermath of the day’s events. The future is uncertain as the threat of hunger looms over the people. With rumors of a growing rebellion, Brynn and her closest friends promise to stick together.

When an unexpected visitor arrives, Brynn’s loyalty will be tested as she learns of a world of magic and treachery. Once her enemy, always her enemy, right? But the dark, knowing eyes of a stranger make her question everything…

…including her heart.

This was the first book I‘ve read in 2025 and I already know – this will be one of my favorites from this year. It was sooo good!It gripped me from beginning to end (what.an.ending.that.was!! 😱) and delivered with a very unique setting without being overwhelming. The plot was super interesting and always kept me wondering what would happen next. I‘m not going to dive deeper into the plot, because I would strongly advise going into this not knowing too much and just let the journey surprise you. When it comes the the MCs, I really liked them both. The FMC is smart and had some real bad@ss moments 💅🏻The MMC Acker has a touch her and 💀attitude, is morally grey and has a fricking nose ring 🫠 And if that wasn’t enough, he falls first and is known for being ruthless af 🖤I was talking to myself while reading the last two chapters 🫣 Like, WHAT.DO.YOU.MEAN??😭😭Rachel Schneider is a mastermind of twists and revelations and I absolutely cannot wait for the next book.

I just finished this and immediately followed the author and bought a copy (I had read it with kindle unlimited) so I hopefully know as soon as possible when the next book will be released. This book had everything you need: suspense, great main characters (and supporting characters), characters arcs, world building and twists I never saw coming!!! Just go read it….. It’s worth it!

A captivating 🩶Romantasy read…that will leave you wanting more!! ⚔️🩶
“Metal Slinger “ (Fire & Metal #1)by Rachel Schneider4⭐️1.5🌶️🩶🩶🩶🩶Well… this Romantasy read was different lol 😂🤯This book is very much character based , I just wish that it was little more plot driven and the world building wasn’t so vague.I really really did enjoyed the second half of this story, the first 40% was very vague a little confusing , and you are kinda thrown into the story blindly! So my only advice I can give you about reading this book is …You have to be patience. Because it does redeem itself! The beginning like I said is a very vague / mysterious representation of the world , especially the world “ in the middle of the ocean? “ The characters were interesting and I loved the magic system, but hopefully in the next book it’s more transparent. And as the story progresses the pieces do fall in place! But then you are reeling from that Plot Twist of an ending! lol 😂 Geez 🤦🏻‍♀️🤯😳Will I be reading the next book? Heck Yes 🙌🏻Do I recommend this book? Yes ! It has its pros and cons but I did enjoyed reading it!! 🩶🩶🩶🩶

    THE TWISTS AND TURNS!!!
The beginning was a bit rough. The story drops you straight into a first-person POV with little context, leaving you unsure of who’s who. There’s minimal background on the history, characters, or setting at the start. However, as the story progresses, everything falls into place, and it flows much more smoothly. The book is fast-paced, which may not appeal to everyone, but the characters and their dynamics are exceptional. You quickly become immersed in the world and its intricate politics. With countless twists and turns, there’s never a dull moment.I was completely captivated by the story and devoured it. As the plot unfolds, everything ties together in a satisfying way. I’m definitely an Acker fan now, and the ending was both shocking and heartbreaking! I need book two right away to see what happens next!

Outstanding book – A MUST READ
This is fantasy romance at its finest, and I couldn’t put it down from the moment I started. Packed with classic romantasy tropes that are done so well, especially my favorite: fated mates! The world-building is both easy to digest and detailed enough to feel immersive. It strikes the perfect balance—not too vague but never overwhelming. The world is divided between several groups of people, and the story revolves around the Alaha, who live on the water, and the Kenta, who reside on land. For centuries, these two factions have maintained a fragile peace, but things take a sharp turn when our FMC, Brynn, threatens that peace right at the beginning of the book. What follows is a thrilling dive into a world of magic, rebellion, and secrets. I will say no more, because you should go into this book relatively blind to get the full experience.Brynn, our FMC, is everything you could want in a lead. She’s smart, confident, and refuses to bow to threats. Then there’s the MMC, Acker. Scrumptious doesn’t even begin to cover it. The chemistry between him and Brynn is electric, and their dynamic had me grinning (and swooning) throughout. This book has all the best romantasy tropes: forced proximity, slowest of slow burns, elemental magic, fated mates (done right), political intrigue, and plot twists you will not see coming! Each trope is executed masterfully, blending seamlessly into the story without feeling overdone. If these are your jam, you’ll absolutely love this book. Even if they are not usually your cup of tea, this book may change your mind. While the pacing is fast and gripping overall, it does have a bit of a lull in the middle. That said, the ending more than made up for it—it left me gasping and desperate for the next book.I think I said aloud, “What the hell just happened?” when I finished the last page. This book grabbed me by the neck and didn’t let go. It’s full of banter, twisty turns, and a delicious tension. Probably one of my favorite fantasy reads this year. I am going to be thinking about this book non-stop until book 2 is released!

Wow, great book. Not quite like Quicksilver, but still good.
This story has humans but with powers. There is some world building and definitely some tension. The banter is also good. Jovie as you will come to know her as is something else. I don’t want to spoil it, but wow that ending brought it together and has me yearning for more. Acker was all you want in a MMC, powerful, deadly and smart. The book felt off but that ending explains alot. I’m hoping there is another book, I’m excited to see what happens with these two!

    A Spellbinding and Captivating Romantasy
I instantly fell in love! This one will not be leaving my head anytime soon, definitely a 6 star read for me! The magic bestowed on humans and the world building is on point, which makes this story so special, believable, and it just pulls you in. Rachel Schneider has written a spectacular novel, one I wish I could read again for the first time. Brynn is an outcast in her home, a self-proclaimed urchin, but knows she must do everything she can to save the people of her home. Jovie comes into her powers and has to work through the pain of her past and learn to trust in herself and her powers. Acker, as the Prince, finds his match and so much more than he was ever expecting. The minor characters are written in such a way that they stand out as the story would not be the same without them. The ending completely broke me, in the best way possible, bringing a completely unexpected twist into the story. I hope a second book in the series is coming soon, as I am completely entranced and yearning for more of this marvelous tale.
