In this galvanizing audiobook for all educators, Kristin Souers and Pete Hall explore an urgent and growing issue – childhood trauma – and its profound effect on learning and teaching.

Grounded in research and the authors’ experience working with trauma-affected students and their teachers, Fostering Resilient Learners will help you cultivate a trauma-sensitive learning environment for students across all content areas, grade levels, and educational settings. The authors – a mental health therapist and a veteran principal – provide proven, reliable strategies to help you:

Understand what trauma is and how it hinders the learning, motivation, and success of all students in the classroom. Build strong relationships and create a safe space to enable students to learn at high levels. Adopt a strengths-based approach that leads you to recalibrate how you view destructive student behaviors and to perceive what students need to break negative cycles. Head off frustration and burnout with essential self-care techniques that will help you and your students flourish.

This book is an amazing text on a trauma-sensitive classroom. I read this book quickly, and now it is sitting at my desk at school and I am working through parts of it again. It is a great framework for the how-tos. Love it.

Great book. Buy it for sure. If you’re a teacher ask your principal if they’ll pay for it for you. I bought mine used and it was in great condition.

What are you waiting for??? This is a MUST read for all educators.
I cant stress how great this book is for any educator. I currently work in a Title I elementary school and as soon as I finished the book I sent out an email to my entire staff encouraging them to read it. It’s that good!Kristin Souers’s background is in mental health and Pete Hall’s resume includes teaching and administrator. The combination equates to realistic ways to use the information they are sharing, which if we are being honest doesn’t always seem to happen in professional development books. Part of why it feels do-able is because they encourage self-reflection and questioning when you find yourself in situations with a student, which I love. They also take time to explain what trauma is and what to look for in the classroom. You can read my full review here: https://thespiritedschoolcounselor.wordpress.com/2016/06/20/fostering-resilient-learners-a-must-read/

Love this book for any grade level
This book is wonderful. It’s easy to read and follow and so applicable in my job as a teacher. So many of our students have had not-OK experiences and this book addresses how to work with them in a loving and firm way. Great book, I’ve already recommended it to several of my friends in education.

A MUST READ FOR ANY EDUCATOR
After meeting both the authors I was so excited to read this book, and man it was so worth it! I work in an urban school and our focus has been to understand trauma. With the way this book is written, it’s to the point and is actually interesting to read. Also the reflection questions have also started great conversations during PLCs meetings. This is a must read for any educator who is trying to manage and understand trauma.

If you work with children, this book is for you! Required reading for a grad school course, but absolutely invaluable.

A wonderful book for anyone working with traumatized children
This book is written for elementary and secondary school teachers and support personnel but it can easily be used by teachers, mental health workers, etc. who work with children of all ages. I am a school social worker and have so many unread books on my shelves but this was recommended to me and it is an awesome resource! Best thing I’ve read in years. The end of each chapter has reflection questions for teachers prompting them to think about whether or not their classroom (and the teacher) is truly trauma-sensitive. My own building and 2 others in my district are using this as a book study for the year. It’s an easy read and well worth buying for all staff.
