Callahan
Fighting wildfires is the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do and I’m damn good at it. Being the captain of an interagency hotshot crew of wildland firefighters is high-risk, high-reward. The risk blindsided me five years ago when I lost one of my crew and was changed forever. Now the only rewards I allow are to work harder, smarter, and enjoy easy, sexy nights with strangers.
Until I meet Prescott Timmons. Her smart-mouth and adventurous spirit have me forgetting all of my rules—until her past shows up and lies start to feel too familiar. I swear to never spare her a second glance, but when she finds herself in a life or death situation with mother nature, my instincts kick in, and I take action. Stranded and sharing a bed again, we’re forced to face our truth. Do we let this fire burn out or fight?

Fighting fires is risky business. Five years ago when members of the Sky Ridge Hotshots lost some of the crew, everything changed.Callahan was ready to buy a house, marry the girl and live happily ever after. But what he didn’t expect was to find her, at the funeral of a crew member banging an old friend. Now all Callahan wants is to work hard and enjoy one night stands, unwilling to put his heart on the line again.Prescott “scottie” is running from her old life, she manages to get a job as an EMT. The first step in getting her life back on track. When she finds herself in a life or death situation, buried under rock and snow after a hike, the only one coming to her rescue is the grumpy hotshot. but just like secrets, they can’t remain buried. Her past life catches up and shes forced to face the truth.Stranded and sharing a bed, one night of fun may turn into flames.Scottie, despite her past was bad ass! I enjoyed her backstory a lot – it was very different and kept me wanting to read on for answers. She had an absolutely sassy af mouth and wasn’t afraid to use it!Cal was every bit mouth watering as expected! He was strong in every sense. He was also stubbon af which created a steamy tension between him and Scottie. He was obsessed with Scottie, even when he didn’t want to admit it. Quite literally her life saver.miscommunication is not a favourable trope but honestly, didn’t put me off in the slightest. The book was well written, keeping me hooked from chapter 1. The side characters were well described and had you eager to pick up the next book. The banter? had me cackling into my kindle. the spice? had me panting.the cover of this book isn’t the only thing smokin’ hot. I absolutely devoured this book, the smut was smutting from the start and only got hotter!Fight is a steamy romance about Callahan, a Sky Ridge Hotshot, and Prescott “Scottie,” an EMT with a troubled past. After some tragic loss in his crew and a cheating partner, Callahan is done with love. However, when he rescues Scottie from a life-threatening situation, their on page chemistry sparks a fiery connection. The hatred for each other kept things hot. Scottie, trying to leave her past behind, is tough and sassy, with a backstory that keeps readers hooked. Callahan, gruff but strong, can’t help but be drawn to her, even though he’s reluctant to admit his feelings. As they navigate miscommunication and sizzling tension, especially stranded with a single bed, the heat is kicked up a notch. The book blends humour, steamy spicy moments, and a touch of suspense, with great side characters and a solid plot that leaves you eager for more. Fae, Billionaires and Stalker – step aside. We have a new boyfriend-stage unlocked: wildland firefighters!! Give me all the feels, all the spice and all the capability of living in the wild – I am here for it!!But: I don’t like the „misunderstanding“ trope not at all. And especially not with people older than 25 (they are in their thirties)! Please: pull yourself together!!!

This book was ADDICTIVE and SOOOOO good! I’ve never read through a book so fast!Sloane is an auto-buy author for me and if you haven’t read any of her books before, you won’t be saying that after you check this one out. It’s hot. It’s delicious. It keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting more, and then you get doused in it! The hot banter between Scottie and Callahan is OFF THE CHARTS! I’ve never been a huge fan of the miscommunication trip but Sloane sold me on it with this one. I wanted more with every page I read, and she delivered! Do yourself a HUGE favor and start your reading year off with this book and the rest of the series! You thought fire fighters were hot?! Wait until you read about these hotshots!Scottie is new in Sky Ridge, escaping her previous life and runs into the Captain of the local Hotshot crew. They spark up a quick and easy banter and can’t get the other out of their heads. Add in a dose of miscommunication, a dash of a terrifying situation on the mountain, a lookout tower and a big heaping pile of forced proximity; and you have FIGHT.

I forced myself to read it, because I love Sloane but this book is just pretty much bland. The plot story is not that thrilling, despite her efforts to touch deep subjects like religious cults and how it affects the quality of life of its members. Sadly I think she lay it pretty flat and gave no substance to the matter. It happend the same with the PTSD or something like that, it just briefly mentioned but not developed. This book could’ve been better if she would’ve elaborated a bit more because it feels she just picked up some random subjects for the sake of enriching the plot but with no intention of making more out of it. So basically it’s just another spicy book where the spice is not that good, disguise as a history with a plot.

A fast read with some great suspense!
[...]This was a new-to-me author so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but her writing was easy to read and the pacing was great. I never got bored with this story! I have a few gripes (miscommunication trope for one, bleh) but they are minor. The suspense had me reading faster, and the spice was hot and a great balance with the plot (minus the lack of showers and toothbrushes, and yes I know it’s fiction, but I can’t un-know it). There was an element of insta-love for me that I often struggle with, but I felt the second half of the book compensated with more depth between them. Overall I enjoyed the read and definitely want to read King and Xander’s stories!

Captivating and Intriguing plus Hotshots
[...]I have been waiting for this series since it was announced a few months ago. My first read by Sloane St. James did not disappoint! There was spice, relationships, suspense, intrigue, heartbreak, healing, and humor. I love how Cal and Scottie eventually handled everything overall. Their chemistry was so off the charts that it was insane. There were so many twists and turns that I could never have predicted how it wrapped up. I texted my book bestie at 2 am because of this book!Overall, it was captivating and intriguing and I can’t wait to read it again after I finish the series.FIGHT FOR THOSE WHO CAN’T.Main points:❤️ Small town❤️ Found family❤️ Reformed playboy❤️ Miscommunication❤️ Damaged MCs❤️ Great banter!❤️ Enemies to lovers❤️ Us VS Nature❤️ Forced Proximity

Skylar + Callahan
[...]Skylar is running from a troubled past and ends up in Sky Ridge. Accepting a job as an EMT for a local fire station, she feels like she’s finally making a life for herself and safe to move forward. When she meets Callahan, neither of them realize how connected their lives are about to be – they just know that they definitely want to pursue something, even if it’s just physical. Both Skylar & Callahan have a past that is absolutely influencing their present. They’ve faced things most of us would be glad to avoid in our lives and it’s changed who they are and how they live their lives. For each of them, it means not getting too attached to anyone. This means that although they are definitely attracted to each other, that’s all it can be – a physical involvement. That is, until a snowstorm forces them together and they have to face each other. This story was good. I definitely enjoyed the world and these characters are a bit unique in each facing such traumatic backgrounds. Some things I particularly enjoyed was that Callahan encouraged Skylar to take care of herself. When her past comes back and she realizes that someone she cares about is hurting, she wants to help, but at the cost to the freedom she’s built for herself.”Listen to me, you can’t save everyone. Sometimes, you can only save one person, and it’s okay if that person if yourself.”ABSOLUTELY! Sometimes, we forget that it’s okay to put ourselves first!Another aspect I loved was the advocating for getting help- therapy, coping skills, resources, etc. The characters truly made that a priority to ensure that they would be able to be their best selves going forward and becoming part of a partnership. I know that fiction stories are an escape and we don’t want to focus on the negatives, but I think this was such a real aspect and made me actually sink into the story more – thinking it could be happening in my actual reality.”True love isn’t the same as love at first sight. It’s not your first love. It’s the one you can stand with in a storm. It’s having them see everything you lack and hearing you’re worthy. It’s fighting for them when they don’t know how. It’s the one who lights the darkest parts of your soul on fire so life can bloom again. It’s hearing those three words and truly understanding their meaning”.

Smart, Sexy, and Sincere
[...]I liked the protagonists very much. I also enjoyed the twists without being ambushed. I like some conflict and action, but not gratuitous brutality.I really loved the humor and whimsy. It balances the drama. Especially between Cal and Scottie.I also loved the resolution the author wrote for Jonathan.

Scottie the hottie & Cal the liar 🔥
[...]My favorite St. James book so far (and that’s sayingA LOT because I’m obsessed with her other books)!Fight is the first book in an interconnected series about wildland hotshot firefighters and their love interests. We get Scottie & Callahan’s story in this first book and damn, was it an amazing way to start this series.Dedicated to fighting fires and his dangerous job, Callahan loves his work, his hotshot crew and living the life of a bachelor. He carries the weight of losing someone close, the burden that it was somehow his fault and has closed to his heart off to anything more than one night stands after the betrayal of an ex. Enter, Scottie Timmons – a beautifully charismatic new comer to town who just signed on as Sky Ridges new EMT. Scottie has left behind the only life she knew to start fresh after religious trauma and a controlling community. These two have interest chemistry, the banter, sit and tension is off the charts and we get a killer spicy ambulance scene no one knew they needed. We start off with strangers to lovers and after a little miscommunication the enemy trope comes into play, don’t fret we circle back to lovers in no time!I loved the storyline of being trapped in the mountains, us vs. nature and surviving the wilderness. That combined with the religious aspect (which was done tactfully) and the touch on mental health and healing after loss makes for a really unique, interesting and deep concept and story in a world where we get books with almost always very similar storylines.I can’t say enough about how amazing this book was. The characters were perfection, their growth, ability to communicate with each other (in the end lol) and self healing were a joy to read. It was funny, emotional, spicy AF and refreshing.I could recommend this anyone, it’s one of those books any reader would enjoy and is an amazing first read in an incredible series!
