It’s cute, but not my favourite Coco Wyo book, sadly. I really wanted to love this one, but there’s several pages that come across as repeats from their other popular books, just Christmas-ified (especially “Spooky themed” ones). Nothing on the cover indicates a spooky theme, but I’d say at least 30% of the pictures are.

Not the same quality as before
[...]I’ve bought 5+ Coco Wyo books on Amazon this year and loved all of them. The paper was thin but that’s what you want when blending alcohol markers. The books were all the same size. This book is really different though and to be honest….. it sucks. The last Coco book I bought was Little Spooky, just a few weeks ago, and it was totally different paper.In my photo, I put a sheet of paper from a different Coco Wyo book behind the page to show you the size difference. Which is fine, that just means I have to use less ink. But the paper itself is different. It has a VERY strong office-store odor, smells just like a box of brand new letter envelopes. I can even taste the taste of licking an envelope.The paper has a weird texture, and the markers leave splotchy coverage now because of the paper type. I have to go over every area twice. I didn’t have this problem before with Coco’s books. The paper would get saturated easily, and I’m using the same exact Ohuhu markers I used on my other books. I thought maybe my markers were running out of ink, so I tried some colors I’ve never used before, and they had the same splotchy appearance :( so it’s definitely the paper causing this issue.I noticed the description says thicker pages. It definitely feels just slightly thicker, but you still MUST put a sheet of paper behind it to prevent bleeding.The paper is a different color too. I used a sheet of blank paper from one of my old Coco books to make swatches of all my markers. When I use a color, it doesn’t perfectly match the swatches I made. It’s very obvious the artist has opted for a cheaper paper, but still charges the same insane $9 per bookI’m pretty disappointed but I’ve already colored two pages in it so I can’t return it now.As for the art, it gets a 9/10 from me. The illustrations are unique and variated. I love the variety you get and the different characters you’ve seen in her other books – you get lots of Santa pages, but also one grinch page, a few spooky Christmas pages with her famous ghosts, a few pages with a little girl and her dog, and some pages with cute Coco animals like her hippo and penguin. There’s also some pages with less detail for when you wanna do a simple page. There’s even a giraffe which I’ve never seen in Cocos books! If you don’t care that much about the paper quality, this book is for you. If you’re sensitive to chemical smells like I am, it might not be the best book for you.

NOT Thick, high-quality paper
[...]EDIT Dec. 7,2024: Coco Wyo has removed the thick quality paper bullet point from the description, as they should for misleading everyone. Now they should reduce their price too because despite plastering “special edition” all over this book’s marketing, nothing special about it. You have to hold these people, who take your money, accountable for their lies.I was patiently waiting for the release of this book. Having a Coco Wyo book published by Penguin Random House seemed like a dream. However, you will note that in the description on the second bullet point, it states: “• Thick, high-quality paper”.I highly disagree with this, this is not the kind of quality that one expects after you see a product being marketed with this type of description.This paper is just barely thicker than any other Coco Wyo standard Amazon printed books. Cute book as expected but disappointed in the quality it touted to what was actually finalized/delivered.There’s a vid review here of someone from the UK and their paper looks much thicker and brighter white than my copy which is printed in the US by Random House NY.I believe the US version of this book is printed on cheaper paper that’s more similar to Amazon paper because in my copy you can even see the lineart coming through from the picture behind.I’ve contacted Coco Wyo but I am still waiting for a reply.Just look at other peoples review photos everyone’s photos you can see how thin it is. I will upload a couple of lowly lit pics with this review.
