Kim clutches the note tightly as her pulse starts to race. You have 36 hours. If you follow the instructions, no one will get hurt…
When Detective Kim Stone is woken before dawn because local journalist Tracy Frost wants to show her a message, she’s not impressed. But her blood turns cold when she reads the note. She has 36 hours to follow a trail set by an anonymous challenger. If she fails, people will die.
Kim’s gut tells her this is no hoax. She summons her team, desperate to prevent what lies ahead. With minutes to spare, they solve the first cryptic clue. It leads to a box hidden deep in the woods, containing a second clue and a tape. As she listens to the recording of a heart-wrenching scream, Kim knows her enemy will go to any lengths to achieve his goals… and that she must draw on all her experience of evil men to understand what is driving him.
Refusing to blindly follow orders, Kim and the team turn the killer’s clues against him, using evidence buried deep in the tapes to find where he’s hiding his victim. But they are too late… And then, as the sun rises on the second day, someone else goes missing. This time, it’s a skilled surgeon, and if they don’t save her, an eight-year-old girl will die.
Exhausted and enraged, with her bosses watching every step she takes, Kim realises the only way to win is to break the rules. But with the clock ticking, can she find the twisted mind behind this murderous game before her time runs out?
From the no.1 bestselling author Angela Marsons, 36 Hours is a pulse-pounding race against time that will not let you stop reading for a second. Perfect for fans of Karin Slaughter, Robert Dugoni and Val McDermid.
Can be read as a standalone.

Angela Marsons Kim Stone series is one of the best crime fiction series out there, and I love how Angela Marsons always manages to keep it fresh, as she explores new ideas, and deepens her characters. The latest book in the series, 36 Hours is an intense read, and things certainly aren’t easy for Kim and her team. They know they are facing something very different to what they have faced before and this is what makes this book so chilling. This book sees Kim pair up with journalist, Tracy Frost. They are facing an unpredictable killer, who leaves Kim and Tracy a specific set of clues to find, and sets a number of rules they must follow. If they don’t exactly what the killer says, people will die. Kim and Tracy have to put aside their differences and work together to find the culprit before it’s too late. It certainly doesn’t take long for things to start taking their toll on Kim and Tracy.I was fascinated to see how Kim and Tracy would work together on this case. They’ve been at each other’s throats in the past, so I did wonder just how things would proceed, and how mad Tracy would drive Kim. It really did make for such fascinating and entertaining reading, and tensions really do boil under the surfaces as they try to follow the killer’s clues together. You can really begin to see the effect this is having on Tracy. I thought, the way in which the killer is going about their crime, was a really original idea and Angela Marsons pulled it off spectacularly. It’s what makes this book so gripping and so fast-paced.You can always guarantee that whenever you pick up a Kim Stone novel, you will be hooked right from the first page; I certainly was with 36 Hours. I was desperate to work out what was really going on, and what was driving the killer to kill, and play with the police in this way, and what an ending. It really felt like I was holding my breath as I raced through the final pages. 36 Hours is one of my favourite books in the series to date, and, once again, I’ll be waiting with baited breath for the next novel to be released.

It’s hard to believe this is book 21 in the Kim Stone series. Each installment continues to feel fresh and vibrant, and like the 20 before, this is simply a pleasure to read – the pages practically turn themselves. Thank you, Ms. Marsons for continuing to write about Kim and her colleagues and keeping the stories as engaas you do!

High Level Of Suspense
[...]36 HOURS is the 21st book in the D.I. Kim Stone crime-thriller series by best-selling author Angela Marsons. This novel can be read as a standalone. Angela Marsons remains one of my favorite mystery authors, and her publisher, Bookouture, always publishes the very best novels. I have read all of her books…and she keeps getting better. I don’t want this series to end!It was so refreshing to touch base with Kim’s CID team again: DS Bryant, DS Penn, and DC Stacey Wood. Her team are driven and compassionate in their work. The story centers around Detective Kim Stone and her rival reporter Tracy Frost. The characters keep getting stronger and stronger. We also touch base with Kim’s boss, DCI Woodward (Woody), Keats, the local pathologist, and who could forget Kim’s faithful dog, Barney. Love that dog!On a Sunday morning Tracy Frost, a local reporter, had received a cryptic message from someone who referred to himself as “The Jester”, about wanting to play a game, showed up on her email. The note gave clear instructions to follow over a period of 36 hours and if they were followed, no one would get hurt… but if she failed, people would die. Tracy was told to contact the police, so she contacted Detective Kim Stone. Was this a hoax?Kim feels this is not a hoax and bought together her team to wait for the first clue…a home phone number, an email address and a clue. A short time later they solve the first cryptic clue with the discovery of a box hidden in the woods with a second clue and tape. This was no hoax! Bloody fingernails and bloody teeth had been left at the scenes.Kim must find where the Jester is hiding his victim. But then on the second day a surgeon goes missing, and if they don’t save her an eight-year-old girl will die.Time is ticking away and Kim must find the culprit.36 Hours is race against time with twists and high suspense level that will keep you glued to your seat. Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and Net Galley for my digital copy.

Surprised
[...]Have loved all of her books, except this one. Plot was strange, I have to say I was bored, never happened before. Maybe because I thought the game was ridiculous, and everything surrounding it. Hope the next one is like the first 20.

Another great book from Angela Marsons
[...]It always makes me happy when a new Kim Stone book comes out. Because I love catching up with Kim and her Team.36 Hours was a great read, it kept me engaged throughout the book and kept me guessing. It even made cleaning my home and getting it in order for the New year after Christmas seem like a breeze 😂😂😂, I was listening to the audible so there was no guilt involved .If you have never read a Kim Stone book before you can read this one, it’s fine but you get so much more out of it if you start with #1Happy reading or listening

The best yet
[...]“36 Hours” has a novel plot. Very imaginative, interesting, and attention grabbing. Very good, Angela. The softening and humanizing of Kim Stone while she and her team solve the challenging crimes presented to them, is one of the main reasons I will continue reading Kim Stone’s exploits. Kim Stone’s last actions, were truly surprising. NEXT!!!

Indefatigable!!!
[...]When local reporter, Tracy Frost, receives an anonymous message from a person calling themselves The Jester, instructing her to follow the rules or someone will be hurt…she immediately goes to DI Kim Stone. The clues are obscure, needing every effort of the team to reach the next one on time.Kim, Bryant, Stacey, and Penn work tirelessly and fervently to solve the puzzles before the deadline…only to have to repeat the process with even higher stakes….the life of a desperately ill child!!!This installment of this excellent series is non stop action, keeping you on the edge of your seat! A definite must read!

Why they call them thrillers
[...]Brilliant! Never stops, then goes up, down, and sideways with too many suspects, cryptic and creepy clues, additional crimes uncovered, and a race against time with deadly outcomes. Kim is still making no friends along the way, which is just about the best part of the series; she leads her team as they deepen skills and independence, and her relationship with Bryant is distilled in a beautiful description toward the end. Keep breathing and keep reading, these are the best-paced crime thrillers with characters who pull you in and storylines that don’t let go.
