Return to the Kingdom of Íseldur, where enemies become lovers and dark secrets hide around each corner, the second novel in the Ashen series.
In the aftermath of a harrowing journey, Silla Nordvig’s dreams of a simple life have been shattered. Beaten, betrayed, and reeling from the revelation of her true name, she flees Kopa with Reynir Galtung, ruthless leader of the Bloodaxe Crew. But when they’re forced into hiding together, Silla soon discovers that Rey has been keeping secrets of his own.
Stuck in a shield-home with the murderous man she thought she knew, Silla forms a new plan: master the magic flowing through her veins to save her sister. But before she can do that, Silla must face her most formidable opponent yet—her own inner demons.
Saga Volsik has nothing to lose. They’ve murdered her family. Stolen her throne. And now they expect her to marry their son, but not if she can dismantle Queen Signe’s plans first. The only problem? The handsome Zagadkian dignitary who knows far too many of her secrets.
Silla and Saga will need to find the strength to step into their destiny and stop chaos from sweeping across the land. Meanwhile, dark threads continue to weave themselves through Íseldur as magic long thought dead begins to wake.

I love everything about this book. I’m addicted to this book. The rich world building, the characters, the unique magic system. And the plot twist is oh-so-good!! I did not see that coming!Spoiler from here:Rey and Silla are perfect for each other. Ashes😂 the slow burn.. but when it gets to the 🌶️🌶️🌶️ it’s WORTH IT..Kass and Saga’s story is the one I’m looking forward to. I think it’s going to be 🔥. For all the magic I’ve read it did not even crossed my mind that Kass is a shape-shifter! My gosh!! I can’t wait for the next book!!!Do yourself a favor and read this series! It’s actually one of the series that’s actually worth reading♥️Highly recommend!

It’s rare book 2 in an series blows me away more than book 1 but honestly kingdom of claw did just that. I loved getting insight into Saga’s world and seeing her growth, I am really excited to see her story progress…and Rurik – I’m into this way more than I should be lol. Rey may be my new fav book BF though, there is such a cinnamon roll buried under that gruff brooding viking!. I don’t want to say too much to spoil anything but if you like Vikings, unique fantasy worlds, romance subplot with delicious spice, slow burn, hidden magic and strong character development this series is for you!

A really well written take, I was taken in by road of bones and as soon as kingdom of claw came out I snapped it up and I’ve been engrossed ever since. I love the characters and the concept. Eagerly awaiting the next book and other series Demi decides to write!

I actually thought this was a finished series when I started reading so was annoyed when I realised halfway through this book that it wouldn’t be concluded because I hate waiting! Haha!! Anyway….This series is fantastic!!Not your typical plot and while being fantasy based includes real life ailments. I love Viking mythology saga’s and I had trouble putting this one down. I can’t wait for book 3!!!!!

It was captivating and easy to connect with
[...]I recently bought book one and read through it in one day. I was excited to see book two was available, and I also read through it in one day. Both were well-written, included excitement, romance, stories, struggles, and the overcoming of hard things for the greater good. It blends well together and I’m excited to collect and read more of your books. :-)

Demi Winters does it again!
[...]Kingdom of Claw is the second book of The Ashen Series by Demi WintersI was a little nervous going into this book that it would not live up to book 1, but I was happy to be wrong. Demi Winters continues the story flawlessly and I really loved the character development. I liked that she added in Saga’s storyline as it gave more depth and understanding to her character and those around her. I could not put down Kingdom of Claw and would recommend it for anyone looking for a Viking inspired fantasy romance with well rounded characters. Please check the trigger warnings since this book touches on some rough things.Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for the eARC!

Do Not Skip Reading This Series
[...]I didn’t think I could fall further in love with the Ashen series; and then I re-read Kingdom of Claw. Mesmerized, enraptured, obsessed. The way that Demi Winters incorporates emotional struggle, growth, banter, slow burn, with epic plot and world building is just outstanding. She will forever be an autobuy author for me and I cannot wait for more from this world!

One of my best reads of 2024 so far!
[...]Thank you so much to Demi Winters, Random House Publishing Group – Ballantine | Delacorte Press, and NetGalley for this ARC!The squeal that I squealed when I was approved for this ARC!! I read the first book and it was amazing! I loved everything about it. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about a Viking fantasy story but I loved it. The writing style was sophisticated and immersive. I went through over 500 pages in a day and the second book did not disappoint! If anything, I think I like it even better than the first one. The first book was a five star read, the second one was easily a 5.5-star to 6-star read.Unlike the first book which was more plot-driven, the second book was more focused on Silla’s character development. It was so refreshing to read about an FMC that was flawed but also badass without being obnoxious and irritatingly stubborn. There’s a fine line between tenacity and stubbornness. The romance was a very slow burn and didn’t feel central to the story (but certainly added to it). There was a lot more at stake than just love and sex. This book was romantasy done right with the perfect balance of gripping plot, likable characters, and angsty romance. I CANNOT wait for book three! And books four and five… just give me all of the books now!

Promising Plot, but Pacing Issues
[...]I’m struggling with this one because, while the plot is excellent and the setting is fantastic, the pacing nearly ruined the experience for me.Plot and Setting:The plot is engaging and well-crafted, keeping me interested in the overarching storyline. The setting is immersive, adding depth and richness to the narrative.Characters:The characters are likable and well-developed, making it easy to connect with them on an emotional level. Their interactions and growth are well portrayed. However, I did find the naiveness of the FMC‘s a bit annoying at times.Pacing:Unfortunately, the pacing is where the book falters. For about 30% of the book, I felt like nothing significant happened, and the story dragged on. This slow progression made it difficult to stay engaged. By the time the romance element finally sparked, my interest had waned. Conclusion:Despite the slow middle, the story picks up around the 80% mark, leading to a promising conclusion. This resurgence in pacing salvaged my overall experience with the book. While the book has its strengths, the pacing issues were significant enough to impact my enjoyment. A tighter narrative could have made for a more compelling read. I pushed through because of the fantastic reviews, but at this point, I’m unsure if I will continue with the series. It’s a 3.5-star read for me.

Viking Romantasy
[...]Initially, I wasn’t sure how I felt about the inclusion of Saga’s storyline—it felt like a departure from the established narrative—but it quickly grew on me. By the end, I was completely invested in her journey and am eagerly anticipating where her arc will lead in the next installment. This series remains my favorite Viking-era fantasy, masterfully blending rich world-building, dynamic characters, and gripping storytelling. I can’t wait for book three!
