It’s a Good Series, but We Got a Publishing Flaw
[...]So our household is a big fan of the series. For Christmas I decided to go all in and buy the whole series- yay “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday”. We got all 22 books, with just one problem. The 3rd book of the series, “The Last Straw” has a publishing flaw: Pages 139-154 are missing and in their place are repeated pages of 107-122. I’ve never seen anything like it before. It’s just one of the books, the rest of the books appear to be OK. So we called Amazon, and we would have to return the entire set- it’s all or nothing. The sellers are independent, so Amazon can “do nothing” with the billions Bezos it makes on the backs of sellers and consumers. Well, I don’t need the entire set replaced, just this one book, but it’s all or nothing. And Oh! By the way, the seller has (understandably) stopped selling the product. So Amazon only offers returning the ENTIRE set for a full refund and then I’d have to re-buy the set from someone else for TWICE the money, used. You read that right. And you aren’t surprised because I’m sure Amazon has told you the same thing about some of your Christmas purchases. So I called the publisher, but I this book set is published out of the UK, someone completely different publishes in the US and the UK isn’t going to replace US books, and the US publisher isn’t going to replace something they didn’t even print. Okay. So then I started to try to price out a replacement for the book, and of course the most expensive part is the shipping- except that’s when I noticed that EBAY charges a lot less in taxes than Amazon. They are also taxing the shipping! LOL. I’ve realized some really important things here, and I know what I’m going to do about it. I hate to ding the seller on something out of it’s control, but the product is the product and the selling platform is the selling platform. So in the end we are all punished by Amazon for using Amazon and I will including this information in my evaluating how I make future purchases.
