First of all, the plot was fun enough that I finished the book.But overall it would’ve profited from another extensive round of editing, as there’s quite a bit of redundancy when it comes to the plot and several retellings thereof in dialogue. There’s several scenes described in great detail which were not at all relevant to the plot nor particularly entertaining.Additionally, although charming, the little boy’s joke about marrying the main character felt overused after the third time.Lastly, I’m not a huge fan of the somewhat switch in genre from the focus of the main character as a business owner to thoroughly lost and helpless girl, back to somewhat confident future queen. Didn’t feel quite congruent to me, but maybe that’s personal preference.Nonetheless, I finished the book and am looking forward to the second one.

I really like the way Lexie writes her books, they are sweet and fun but at the same time she gives you enough information about the places and personalities of each character, in addition to creating anticipation about what is going to happen.

[...]I usually avoid series that haven’t finished because cliffhangers really annoy me, but I made an exception for this one and I’m so glad I did. The characters are well written and interesting and the world built is rich and novel. I can’t wait for the next book.In this world the rulers of supernatural kingdoms are chosen by their gods from among humans and marked using magic. The first book is really an introduction to the story. We are introduced to the FMC who she is uncommonly reluctant to take the role the goddess chose for her. She’s average but likeable and doesn’t see her own worth due to her difficult mother. We are separately introduced to her goddess chosen mates. At the end of the first book you are set for the story to really start.I will be looking for more books by this author. She has a great voice and strong imagination.
