A coming interdimensional war. A race against time. A thrill ride like no other.
Multimillion-copy bestselling authors Douglas E. Richards and Joshua T. Calvert team up for the first time to deliver an explosive, high-stakes science-fiction thriller, one that will leave you breathless.
Deep in Antarctica, two researchers find an enigmatic black sphere suspended in the heart of a huge crater. Neither man is ever seen again.
Decades later, reality fractures. A Manhattan skyscraper vanishes into thin air. An airplane crashes in the Sahara Desert—its existence defying logic. Across the globe, breathtaking technology and mysterious artifacts appear, all leading to one chilling truth: a parallel Earth is breaching the boundary between realities. And with every artifact that crosses over, the fabric of existence tears further apart.
Enter Dr. James Barron, a man haunted by his past who is thrust into a fight he didn’t choose. As secret organizations and shadowy forces battle to control the growing breach, Barron becomes humanity’s reluctant champion. Can he stop an invasion from a world bent on conquest? Or will the widening rift doom both Earths to annihilation?
The Rift is the electrifying first entry in a trilogy of epic science-fiction thrillers.
“Richards is an extraordinary writer,” (Dean Koontz) who can “keep you turning the pages all night long,” (Douglas Preston)
“Joshua T. Calvert has a gift for making nail-biting science fiction that you can’t put down. Get ready for some sleepless nights!” (M.A. Rothman, USA Today bestselling author)

The Rift kept me captivated from start to finish. The novel’s intriguing plot, well-developed characters, and relentless pacing made it an unforgettable read. I miss Doug’s scientific deep dive at the end of the novel but think the addition of Joshua’s raw energy more than makes up for this! Highly recommend for any sci-fi enthusiast!

Ok so I finished the book in the 6 1/2 hours predicted by kindle (I do read a lot). One heck of a non-stop action-packed roller coaster with impossible twists and turns that keep you riveted to your seat, couch, whatever. Amazing how such a wild and crazy “out there” story can be so believable and engrossing. Can’t wait for the next installment.

I want to be a cheerleader for this author but there’s something too simple about the writing style and stories. Its like early star trek. I wish it was gritting and more complex. If you can get for free or cheap, decent read

And we have another WINNER!
[...]Interested combination of two different writing styles, yet strangely compatible. I’ve had Calvert on my to do list, but caught up in a lot of non-fiction lately. Pretty sure Richards has driven a lot of dialogue and character relationships. Really glad the next chapters are scheduled for quick release. Congratulations to both for a strong ‘meld’ of skills without ‘jarring’ the reader. How do I get on the pre-reading list?

Complex Thriller
[...]This is the first book by Douglas E. Richards that kept me riveted, confused, and riveted to it, turning pages with every twist and turn of the complex plots. A must read.

Good balance of sci-fi and action
[...]I like that this book balanced really intense action and strategy with the sci-fi, but then the action itself was backed up by more scientific details. In movies, if the door blows off a plane we know everything is getting sucked out and all that matters is the various clever ways for the hero to reach the ground safely, but this book goes into the details hard – the temperature, the pressure, how it looks and feels, how the parachute works. I love that. The book also had a couple of proofreading misses and no chapter markings on the Kindle. I hate that and if the story isn’t good enough I’ll abandon a book if the ebook isn’t formatted and structured right.

it’s like an action movie with too many special effects and not enough plot
[...]I love Scifi/Techno Thrillers, having read many many of them. This book shows up as number 1 on the techno thriller list so I expected it to be incredible. The action was too far over the top and it has little real science to explain the tech. I won’t ruin the book by sighting examples, but I found it very underwhelming. Almost like an action film with too many special effects while the plot is secondary.

Fast paced page turner
[...]As usual Douglas now paired with Joshua has delivered another now stop adrenaline ride! I just couldn’t put the book down. The story just keeps getting better as it goes on! I can’t wait for the next book to come out next week. I’m glad to see that I don’t have to wait to continue reading.

Action packed, with some hard science fiction elements.
[...]The book is tightly written, action packed, and has the kind of characters you fully engage with.Though my mind keeps returning to a question asked in the book that seemed ill informed, a person asks “who would go to medical school at 30 years old?” It turns out, that is not unusual. While they are called NONTRADITIONAL students, med students over 30 are not that unusual.Though having started medical school at 54, I would think it was legit to ask why someone would go to medical school in their fifties.Great Book!

As my wife likes to say..,…….
[...]UNBELIEVABLE! Although this is somewhat sci-fi in its origin the full story erupts into spy vs spy vs spy vs …etc etc. Trust no one, believe anything and leave belief behind….for it has no place in this universe. My disappointment is only enhanced by the exploits of the main protagonist who’s constantly in jeopardy but with with powers Superman would relish he constantly proves ” ..you can’t keep a good man down”. From falling out of a plane with no parachute to undergoing extreme torture for days only to still have enough energy to fight the adversary s, just makes this story ring hollow.Nicely written but …way over the scope of what ” could” happen. In actually its not sci-fi… its fantasy.

What a fun romp!
[...]I really had fun reading this book. Lots of interesting ideas, strange characters, and odd plot twists. The author must have stock in fabric fitms as James keeps helping injured people by tearing his shirt into strips. How many of us wear shirts that are so poorly made that we can tear them in seconds to stanch somebody’s blood flow. For instance:James removed his shirt and tore it into strips.James pulled off the man’s shirt and ripped out scraps of cloth, which he used to bind the largest wound he’d…James knelt carefully in front of one of the dead men and removed his shirt and jacket, using the material to wrap scraps of cloth around the cuts he had sustained on his forearms…——The author also showed that James has a sense of humor:“We call ourselves Dawn,” said Dodger in a toneless voice. “And we’ve been on the trail of MJ-12 since Roswell.” James shook his head. These parties really liked their codenames. It would have been ridiculous if it wasn’t so damn serious. The Scars, Dawn, MJ-12, Agent Slate, Dodger. How many more?“Unicorn?” said James in disgust. “Does anyone have an actual name? Who came up with that, a group of eight-year-old girls at a slumber party?”——I’m ready to continue this adventure in the next book, which is due out March 1st.Highly recommended!
