I had high hopes going in to this book. The summary made it seem like there was so much potential. The beginning was good, I was pretty invested. However, it turned into a predictable action movie about half way through.While the author tried to make the MMC likable, I found I couldn’t really connect with him. I think he needed major therapy before this event even happened. The FMC was probably the only decent character and she could have done much better than him. There was a lack of chemistry between the two, even though there was that initial tension. It just fizzled out.While I did enjoy the beginning, it felt like a struggle to get through the rest. Not my favorite by the authors but not every book is for everyone.3.5/5

I really don’t know what I expected from this story. No wait. That’s not entirely true. I’ve read a Jennifer Hartmann book before. I know what’s it’s like to be emotionally eviscerated. This story was that and more.It was addictive. A slow burn for sure. But you’re sucked into this story of Everly who was an up and coming model who is taken captive. Then we have Issac who is a disgraced retired detective who finds himself in a cell next to Everly. A woman who just so happens to have gone missing 2 years prior.I don’t want to give anything away because you really need to read it going in not really knowing much more beyond that.This really is like a deranged love is blind episode except the two are held captive against their will and being tortured.If you’re a fan of the Still Beating, then you’re going to be obsessed with this book.

And even though this was a bit of a longer book I still wasn’t ready for it to end!Also I just have to say for our romance lovers out there, this story is one of true plot driven slow burn romances.I love a good slow burn and this one hit just right!And while there wasn’t a lot of spice in this book the scenes that were there were top tier perfection! The mouth on Issac! Whoa!This book truly was so emotionally gut wrenching and an amazing ride that absolutely won’t be forgotten!
