An archmage enrolls in magical university, glad to finally be free of war. Unfortunately, trouble seems to follow him everywhere…
After dealing with monsters spilling from magical Gates and Towers—and worse, the people fighting over the resources of the new world—Syl is happy to be no more than an unremarkable class 3 student with dismal practical scores and a powerful secret at an Aurian magic academy. Assigned to guard the undercover princess, he is content to live school life—right up until people start trying to kill them both.
As outside forces start to close in and Auria hides its weakness from its people, Syl refuses to allow his peace to be trampled on. Once, he was legendary on the battlefield, a voiceless sovereign who left nothing in his wake.
He will show the world why they feared the Silent Archmage.

Ok. So, I am 12% through this book and it seems a lot like a manga/anime I have seen before. There are enough differences between this and the manga but even though I have only read a little, the inspiration is obvious to me. Hopefully it will avoid the cringy elements from the manga.By the way, the inspiration seems to be “An Irregular at a Magical High School”.I am still going to finish reading this but felt compelled to review it early.

Really liked the book. It is a must read. I know there is lots of criticism but I truly think it was a great book and I really hope the author chooses to continue for the second book.

Start as a simple story with an overpowered MC but it develops a more complex plot. It isn’t easy to understand why Bianca has gone to the academy but I hope it will be explained in the next volume.

I tremendously enjoyed this book. The two main characters were interesting and enjoyable to read about. Supporting cast likewise was well put together.

I don’t know why I keep looking for magical academy books, usually they are very disappointing. This one turned out to be very interesting, weak but strong not what he seems and mysterious. But as for his attempts to run under the radar he was terrible, and somewhat arrogant. Not in a bad way, just in a, I’m capable who are you to say otherwise way.I’m really looking forward to the next book. War is on the horizon.

Great Lit RPG with great set up for future installments.
[...]A very inoffensive read with a good descriptive system, fun amounts of violence, a very interesting MC, and some good politics to throw as well. The world building is great and the author is very comfortable with creating fun concepts in their own world, which is a bonus for us readers.A quick read, but a good one, would recommend, especially if you’re a picky reader like I am.

Good but problematic
[...]Many instances of confusing speakers. There are many conversations where the speaker seems to be misidentified. Either it is truly crappy editing or a translation by computer. Story is fine and magic system is overly defined. Will likely read next book but this needs to be revamped.

A Refreshingly Enjoyable OP MC Read
[...]I highly recommend this book to people who are looking for for an OP MC story that has both stakes and great characterization. Far too often these sorts of stories fail to provide convincing characters or give us only a paper-thin motivation (I can’t number the amount of distressingly poorly written stories of this kind) but not The Silent Archmage. This story is great; the system/magic apocalypse is treated seriously, and the geopolitical situation feels well thought out and incredibly creative. The mystery around the MC is also handled well. Also, for those who are a fan of great worldbuilding, this story also does great with that.Good book, looking forward to where the author takes this series :)

Book 1
[...]Book 1 was a fun read and had errors throughout. The plot and characters are developed well. Some of the information is not revealed until the last and it can be a bit confusing with the classes and rankings for each character. The overall was a bit hard to follow and even now I’m not totally positive what side the MC are on and their purpose. The story wraps up somewhat, but also leaves a cliffhanger for the second book to start at.

Story is great… recommend
[...]I recommend an edit. There are several wrong words and sentences without an actual ending. I remember one ended in (the “).Most issues are in the earlier half of the book. It seems as if the editing improved as the author developed the story. Give it a chance if you can overlook grammar issues. I know some people cannot hence the warning.

Worth the read, takes inspiration and does cool things
[...]Enjoyable read — seriously OP character in a magic academy, a story as old as time (or at least Harry Potter), protecting a princess. Gets pretty gritty, satisfying ending. It will be fun to see where the next book goes. The story takes inspiration from an anime but does new and interesting things with it.

Similar to Magic High Anime
[...]A lot of similarities to The Irregular at Magic High anime. Contains plenty of differences, though it took me a bit to truly see this as it’s own work, it certainly stands apart. I certainly enjoyed this though giving it the full 5 stars is not possible. Slight publishing errors, fairly simple plot, and mid level characters leave this short of that benchmark. Though world building, magic system, and some of the lore later in this book keeps it interesting and unique from the anime I referenced. Either way, worth a quick read and going to book 2 now.

this is such a good read!
[...]I’ve been on a slump. You know when you finish a great book or series and just want the next one to come out already and nothing else will do? Thats been me for a few weeks. But this book killed it! I love the writing, the mystery, the (dare I say it) politics 😱in this book. The story comes together so well and I can totally see this happening with the events described. Great characters and awesome reveal of the mcs circumstances. Looking forward to the next one!
